Lindsay Esposito dislikes anything “themey,” but when she and Scott Petropoulos began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted it to have some connection to the things they both enjoy, like going to the beach and exploring the coast. “As soon as we went to the Stamford Yacht Club, we knew,” she says. “It had that nautical feel we both loved.” That and everything else about their nuptials on Aug. 7, 2010 reflected summer and seaside.
“There were so many interesting, cool things about this wedding,” says photographer Sarah Lehberger of Afterglow Photos in Fairfield. “They wanted all candid shots—no forced smiles or staring into the camera. They wanted photos of a walk on the dock. But one of the coolest things was the guys, who arrived by boat.” The groom and his groomsmen were dressed formally “but were wearing sunglasses and checkered sneakers,” she laughs.
Another cool item was the whimsical tiered display of cupcakes, in different flavors, frostings and decorations, supplied by Palmer’s in Darien. There was a minicake on top for the bride and groom to cut “and ice cream with a raspberry drizzle” if anyone wanted it, adds Lindsay.
The jewelry also added a unique touch. Lindsay’s friend Lindsay Bartlett designed the pieces, including Scott’s cuff links, which featured impressions of his bride’s fingerprints.
Lindsay, a teacher at Naramake Elementary School in Norwalk, and Scott, the service manager at Norwalk’s Reo Appliances, both grew up in Norwalk. They had known each other for ages when they became engaged. Hometown seemed so providential for them that they didn’t stray far to find most of the things they needed. “I’m not a princess type and didn’t want anything puffy or with sequins,” Lindsay explains, so she was thrilled when she went to nearby Sukran’s Bridal and Tuxedo in Norwalk and found the perfect dress, with simple lines and vintage organza flower appliqués.
Choosing Licari Floral Designs by JP in Norwalk also seemed a no-brainer. “We had bought flowers there for so many family events,” Lindsay says. “JP knows me. He knew I didn’t want a theme. No sea stars or fruit—just flowers.” Which is why she was so pleased with her own and her attendants’ bouquets, with their elegant clusters of off-white Vandella roses and green and white cymbidium orchids, and with the beachy-themed blue, white and green centerpieces.
It all came together so seamlessly that Lindsay says, “If I could get married every Saturday, I would!” When her lovely wedding did come to an end, she and Scott were off to Newport, R.I., then Montauk, finishing up their seaside honeymoon on Block Island.
