Real Connecticut Weddings: Heather & Michael

It's a lucky bride who has her wedding reception at the home she grew up in. Heather Boldt recalls running around her parents' Greenwich property at age 2; now 275 guests gathered there to celebrate her marriage to Michael Gill of Staten Island, whom she met through work in New York.

The couple were married by Heather's minister, William Evertsberg of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich, but at the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford (aka "the fish church") since the Greenwich church was under construction. They were attended by a large bridal party that included eight bridesmaids and eight groomsmen.

It was a gorgeous late summer day. Heather wore a Monique Lhuillier gown from The Plumed Serpent in Westport with a sable-brown sash and a jacket that she took off for the reception. "It was as if I wore two different dresses," she says.

For the reception, all gathered at the Boldts' home, where a tent was festooned with blossoms and greens designed by the Bees Knees of Greenwich. "We wanted a rustic, woodsy feeling," explains Heather, who planned the day with Kim Meehan of Essentials in Fairfield, who made sure that things flowed as they should.

Heather decided on long tables, enhancing the spirit of togetherness. Lending a jazzy feel was Richard "Cookie" Thomas and his band from Stamford. A special touch was a cigar roller arranged by the caterer, Plum Pure Foods and Catering of Cos Cob.

One unique aspect of the day, on which Heather, Kim and the caterer collaborated, was the end-of-day (actually evening) finale: fire pits around which guests toasted marshmallows for s'mores, cozying up under blankets in warm earth tones that were tied with ribbons saying, "Snuggle up."

Capturing the event was Megan Dey of Megan Dey Photography of New York and Greenwich, who has some history with the family. "I photographed Heather's two sisters' weddings (in 2003 and 2004) and it was a pleasure to work with the Boldts again," she says. "They really made me feel like part of the family, and did a beautiful job bringing everything together. From the cigar roller to the s'mores, it was an incredible wedding."
